It is the first time that the sapphire is dressed in this colour in watchmaking. The Big Bang Unico Sapphire had already been the protagonist of the Sapphire Revolution in 2016. One year after this world premiere, the manufacture of Nyon signed another, the result of its constant commitment to innovation, research and development. Although the coloured synthetic sapphires existed since 1902, or since they were invented by the French chemist Auguste Victor Louis Verneuil, the fusion of the sapphire is complex and unpredictable.


Its crystallization process is unstable and it is difficult to obtain similar color sapphires even if they are produced at the same time. In addition, bubbles or crevices may appear in the matter that make the final material unusable for the realization of the Big bang crates. But the main difficulty concerns the size. Until now, coloured sapphires did not exceed 2kg. Today has overcome this technical and chemical limit, developing a complex and expensive process that has allowed to create a large sapphire, transparent and colorful in a perfectly uniform way. Hublot melts aluminium oxide (Al2O3) – The raw material of the sapphire – to a transition metal – chromium (CR) at a temperature of over 2000 to 2050 degrees Celsius.

A coloured sapphire that retains all its original properties: the most scratch-resistant material, more transparent and one of the toughest in the world. An innovative color as it is the first time in the history of watchmaking that the sapphire is tinged with blue.

Big Bang Unico Sapphire is limited edition of 250 copies for the blue version. case, bezel and caseback cut into blue sapphire blocks.
